AC/DC

Having a career in radio (my past), gives you ample opportunity to see lots of live shows and just about any and every artist you would ever want to see. From Britney to Justin, to Sir Paul McCartney to the Stones - I've just about seen it all.
Having said that... there are only 2 bands left on my list that I would love to see.
1. AC/DC
2. Led Zepplin

Tuesday night, for my birthday, Brian offered me the chance to knock one of those off my list!

AC/DC

When you are seeing such mammoth bands, you just never know what to expect. It's either going to be REALLY bad (hello, Motley Crue) or perma-grin good. I'm happy to report, from their incredible entrance (a gigantic train engine pulling out on stage with tracks that shot out fire) to their finale of "For those about to Rock" with 6 REAL cannons, we were grinning from ear to ear. The crowd was actually louder than the band and Brian Johnson can still scream out those notes. Angus and his duck walk were incredible.... until he did the strip tease.... I don't know if you've ever seen a 60+ year old guy in a school uniform take off his clothes from his shiny bald head to his AC/DC boxers.... I was a little nauseated. The years have not been kind.

It was a great night. If there was an award for best use of props and best rock entrance, they would get it. And they can still melt some faces. :)

Grandpa's birthday

Today was my (angie) grandpa's 84th birthday. He said that he worked all day and he figured that was a good day because most 84 year olds that he knows have to be waited on and taken care of. He's an amazing man. He's from Atlanta, he served in the World Wars and he and my grandmother's first home was off of Spring Street in the 1940's. I love you, Grandpa!

Home Renovations

We've decided to take the weird half bath in the master bedroom and expand it into a full bath. There's not really room for shower in this tiny bathroom, so we decided that since the hall closet backs into the half bath, we would just knock down the wall of the hall closet and give the new full bath added space.

This will likely be a long renovation since we don't want to borrow money to do this. So stay tuned as we S L O W L Y transform our bath. (and this is only the beginning!)

Open Flame Night

Tonight we decided to have "open flame" night!

So we made chili for lunch (for the hotdogs later) and then for dinner, Brian started up the fire pit and we made chili dogs and smores. Mmm....

Labor Day

Labor Day we had a cook out and invited some family over.

My Students Rock!

This is my student Jacob Royal.  He's awesome. He's been playing drums for 3 years and taking lessons with me for 1 and a half.  Check out his awesomeness!

Highway Star Rocks @ Rock Camp!

So I taught Rock Camp at work last week.  For those of you that don't know, Rock Camp is a summer day camp for kids that take lessons at my store.  Guitar players, bass players, and drummers come to camp and we put them together into bands and assign them a song to learn.  They then have to listen to their song, write out the music for their part, and rehearse together for the big concert at the end of the week.  This Rock Camp melted my face off!  These kids were unbelievable!  I wish I had started playing drums this early in life.  Here's a little video of the guitar solo in the song 'Highway Star' by Deep Purple that one of the bands did.  Enjoy!

Seville update

Pastor Pepe sent us this picture of their stage.




They have been able to hang a black curtain behind the set that Brian and I built. Now all they lack is their riser to come in - which they have already ordered and some foot lights! We're so excited for them!

This weekend was spent at Buckhead Church with some of our amazing volunteers. They had 24 hours (think "lock-in" for adults) to write, shoot and edit a film. They, of course, had perameters and mandetory things that they must include.

Here is the winning film by Team Todd Whiddon (edited by staffer Josh Peters!). Way to go guys!

2 years ago today, Brian and I had our wedding in a park in Duluth.

Today I'm wearing my purple converse, just like I did on that day. My mom told me that she hoped that our wedding day was the day we loved each other the least. I'm so happy because I believe she was right!

Lots of exciting stuff to report!

WE REACHED OUR GOAL! Thank you so much to everyone that supported us!

Here's a report of our journey thus far. We're about 6 hours ahead. Our flight to Madrid started with dinner - lights out - and then at midnight, lights on and breakfast. Buenos Dias! We arrived at 1am our time, 7am Spain time. It hurt a little.



Here is a little thing we called "the claw". Hairy little hand less than a foot from my nose on a 7 hour flight ...

New Amphitheatre in Alpharetta

They've built yet another concert venue in the metro - but this one is actually bringing in some really good acts.

Rain = Muddy dogs

Our dogs have cabin fever. They've been pacing the front and back doors watching the birds and squirrels with anxious interest.
Ruby couldn't stand it anymore and started whining to go outside. I let her out ... you know ... in case she had to potty.
She went out and then came back in covered in mud and then proceeded to jump on the couch.

I thought... "no problem". Our couch has fabric that you can take off and wash and that was one of the selling points for us. So Brian and I take off the cover and ignore the 'dryclean only' tag and throw it in the wash. And then panic set in as I tried to put the newly washed cover back on and low and behold - it was way too small. I hopped on Ikea's website to see how much a new cover would be and our couch (and it's covers) have been discontinued!

A couple of hours later and some frantic searching on ebay, I found out that I tried to put the cover on the wrong pillow and had I put the right cover on the right pillow ..... it would have fit.

**sigh**
It's been one of those days...

Going to Spain

As a part of our continuing call to serve God, we feel like God has led us to our
next big step – which is leaving the familiarity of our comfy couch and our yappy dogs in
Norcross and heading out to Seville, Spain with 13 other people from our church. We are
petrified since we have never left the country! But we are trusting God and answering his
call to serve those that need us.

About 7 months ago, our partners in Seville found a great space to use for their church… well, it’s better than where they were meeting, which was under a tree in a park! Obviously, the tree in the park was not optimal and had some issues. Now they have a “store front” location in the middle of a high-rise apartment community. Because their new location is now in the middle of restaurants, coffee shops, playgrounds and apartments, it is a perfect location for them to reach out to the community that is mostly Muslim.

The space that they have rented needs some renovations. It was a workout facility. They need to patch walls, put in flooring, paint, install sound and lighting, and make it feel more like their church home. They have had some generous donations that allowed them to get the work started. Our team is going over May 20-27 to help them finish the work. We are really excited about all the possibilities that will present themselves once they have a permanent location. In honor of how they began, the name of their church will be Iglesia Parque Este or East Park Church.

March Snow

How bizarre, how bizarre... wait, isn't that a line from some early 90's pop song? Anyway, it snowed yesterday at my house. It was really weird. At first I thought it was just cherry blossoms blowing all over place. Angie quickly pointed out my incorrect-ness by catching some falling snow in her hand and eating it.

Easter Weekend

Good Friday and Easter services went well, I think!

Here is the video we showed at the beginning of both services.



On Good Friday we had 3 artists paint 3 different paintings. At the end of the service, we had them put the paintings together to reveal 1 picture of Jesus on the cross. In a dramatic move, we turned down all the lights and had the artists paint over it. Here is the result (in black light).


It was a long weekend, but our fearless leader gave us Monday off! Thanks Jeff!

Also, a really cool part of Good Friday was that my Mom, Grandma, Mother-in-law, Aunt, Uncle and best friend came and all sat together - right in front of me. I think I got a little emotional while I watched the great women in my family (including Mom Weaver) take communion together. I don't think I'll forget that.

Good Friday

Growing up, I never went to a Good Friday service.
The sad fact of the matter is that I never gave it much thought until this year, while working at a church. "Good Friday" is such a deceiving name for the day that Christ was crucified. I thought it just went in with the Easter package in celebration that Christ conquered death and when I think of Easter I think of renewal and spring.
It's not. It should be called "Horrible, Awful, Disturbing Day that God allowed Himself to be spit on, mocked, beaten and killed Day".
I know, I know.... "Good" is for how good God is and His love... and (dare I say it) Good for us. Good for us that God bailed us out.
How great is His love! This will be an Easter I never forget. Because it's the first Easter that I really understood Good Friday. It's the first Good Friday I will spend remembering what Christ did for us. My small human brain can not fully understand how deep and great a love like that is.
The very God that created every blade of grass that you see, every mountain, every sea, every animal and bird ... the God that is (and has every right to be) all thunder and might, put himself in our small shoes and allowed Himself to be spit on by His very creation, the very creation He was saving from an eternity with no hope.

Death of a Cell Phone

After 2 long years, Angie's phone finally bit the dust last night. Fortunately we didn't have to shell out an arm and a leg to get her a new phone (which would really suck since our contract is up in May and we're thinking about switching providers). Wally World came thru for us with T-mobile prepaid phone for $30. All we had to do was drop her SIM card in. I love finding the loop-holes in the system.

Today is Presidents' Day and traffic was AWESOME!
It's true, I don't get the holiday, but the next best thing is getting to work in 20 minutes.

Superbowl thoughts and random flashing

yeah, it's a little late in the week to be talking about the Superbowl, but I thought I would share my thoughts. :)

Well, I think it was pretty obvious that when Jordan Sparks sang the National anthem it was pre-recorded. My first tip off was hearing that the recording was available on iTunes before the Superbowl even started. (watch out!) The other tip off was my impeccable skills of reading lips. Well, they're not that great, but working in a place where every Sunday I stare at a video looking for lip sync has helped. But anyway... moving on.

What I did not expect was my suspicions that the Halftime show with Tom Petty was also pre-recorded. When it came halftime and the announcers started their "Halftime Report" in the back ground, I kept hearing music. At first I thought it was just music being played in the stadium. But then, I happed to recognize "Free Falling" which happens to be a Tom Petty song. Hmm... why would they be playing a Tom Petty song before he comes out and sings it? And then the next song I recognized was a Petty song too! Soon the music died away and the announcers finished their report and then "the concert" began that included "Free Falling". Weird.... is it possible because of the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson fiasco, that they have begun to pre-record the halftime show so that they can censor any potential random act of flashing?
Sorry, I couldn't find any YouTube videos to prove my point - but it happened, my friend! Believe you me! (what exactly does that mean, by the way? sounds like tarzan talk to me...)

I can't move my neck - anyone have any suggestions? Good Chiropractor? Physical Therapist?

I'm sitting on my couch with a heating pad wrapped around my neck, nursing a burned finger, a tired spirit (how much longer must this self-inflicted roll call headache go on?) and a broken heart.

Ruby....

Ruby is our new Wal-Mart puppy. Found by our good friends Jonathan & Allison, Ruby appeared on a cold winter day underneath their car. After weeks of getting no response to flyers, Ruby came home with us to big sister Savannah.

•Ruby feels the need to give my jeans a tongue bath...daily.
•Ruby chews on EVERYTHING, including her back feet.
•Ruby runs at full velocity around the house, ears flapping in the breeze, tongue hanging out and wheels spinning around the curves.
•Ruby torments poor Savannah to no end.
•Ruby can jump over 3 ft. vertically straight up in the air.
•Ruby likes to perch on the top cushion of the couch which inevitably gives way and sends her crashing to the floor.
•Ruby enjoys wiggling around on her back and traveling that way...
•Ruby enjoys making her own snow out of toilet paper in the bathroom
